WHAT IS DIFFICULT DISCUSSIONS EASY SONGS (DDES)?

The purpose behind these resources is to support schools, children and parents in discussing and dealing with sensitive topics such as racism and abuse. The uniqueness of these resources is that they deal with these difficult topics using music in a sensitive and gentle way and will serve to compliment your SRE and PSHE programmes as fun, effective and affordable bolt ons.

CURRICULUM ACCESSIBILITY

DDES resources have been created with guidance from head teachers, NSPCC material, a child trauma expert and are compatible with the school curriculum and programs like the Christopher Winter Project, SCARF and Show Racism the Red Card. Safeguarding experts have reviewed the material and found it to be “extensively researched and in line with safeguarding best practices”. Headteachers and teachers are reporting that they are “great, informative, stimulating and engaging whilst addressing some really sensitive and important issues in an age related way.”

Everything you need to deliver each lesson is in each resource download, allowing for the lessons to be easily delivered and seamlessly fit in to established school timetables.  For example, it could be used at the beginning of a PE lesson, during assemblies, music lessons, within a P4C (Philosophy 4 Children), spelling or geography session, SRE or mindfulness lesson. It is a flexible resource with follow up activities to support the teachers and children.

FOR WHAT AGES?

3-11 years. We strongly believe that these important conversations should start young and should be ongoing over the years to protect children. We've made it fun, enjoyable and light so that children will not realise the gravity of the topics they are discussing unless you want them to.

COVID GUIDANCE AND USE OF THE RESOURCES

Over 90% of the suggested activities do not involve singing and can be carried out within class bubbles presenting no conflict with any Covid regulations.
